Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: John 16:12-15

I have always been close to the third person of the Trinity, the Paraclete. I found comfort as a child chattering with the Holy Spirit; God was too far away and Jesus too big for my little heart.

Sometimes when things are so big and beyond understanding, they frighten us as children. It felt good as a child to know this spiritual friend who could convey authority from an "adult" God in such a way that made sense to my insufficient and developing intellect. I find myself, in my aging and increasing disability, returning to that childlike spiritual behavior of chattering with the Paraclete.

What is being discovered as I’ve matured, to paraphrase the poet Rilke, is that I’ve often questioned events in my small world—from my youth through adulthood—and have now lived into many of the answers.

The Paraclete has gently, like a softly falling rain upon my soul, shared all that Jesus offers to reveal God’s immense and unconditional love.

Ponder:

Being guided spiritually takes on many personal and at the same time universal forms. How are you guided spiritually? There is a lot we may not understand or cannot currently bear in this world. Do you have confidence that by listening to what the Holy Spirit offers, your faith will be enlivened?

Pray:

Great and merciful God, present in Jesus and the Holy Spirit, open my mind to the fullness of the Holy Trinity. Allow my heart to be open to the promptings of the Paraclete.
