Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Matthew 5:27-32

Picture a dish with a small crack in it. Indeed, it still functions the way it should, but is it safe to use anymore? Repeated use will weaken the crack until it inevitably breaks, shattering into hundreds of small shards. So, too, it is with our thoughts and character: we must care for both, guarding our thoughts and actions to love and honor God and our neighbor.

While the language in this Gospel may seem violent and extreme, it makes an excellent point. Moral choices made with ill intent, even if not followed through into action, erode our moral character. Yes, it's unsettling to consider removing parts of our body that cause us to sin. But this violent imagery is attempting to show us the outcome when we are unloving toward others.

Jesus, being fully divine and fully human, knows the fragility of our human condition. Let us ask Him for the grace to model His love to the world.

Ponder:

How can we better show the love of the Father to all we encounter today?

Pray:

Lord, help us to guard our hearts and minds and so show forth Your glory.
