Today's Gospel: Matthew 7:15-20
In today’s Gospel, we are instructed on what false prophets of this world look like. We live in a world where we are bombarded with people, images, and teachings that are against what we believe as Catholics. Unless we are grounded in the knowledge of the teachings of the Catholic Church, it is easy to become confused or distracted and walk away from the truth.
As Catholic mothers, we are called not only to live the faith, but also to teach it to our kids and our families. In a culture that is frequently confused about what is good and holy, this can be a challenge. The good news is when we pray and stay true to all that we believe in terms of our faith, we will be on a better track.
What is the best way to stay on track with the Lord each day? The best way is through prayer and through an openness to imitate Christ in our daily living. Our kids are smart. They know a rotten piece of fruit and a good piece of fruit when they see them. When we are true to our faith in word and in action, they will see the good in us and wish to follow Jesus as well. Similarly, when we become distracted, selfish, and misguided, our children can easily detect this too.
Today’s Gospel is challenging, but it is also a wonderful reminder for all of us to not only preach but to practice. All too often, we parents are not up for the challenge of sacrificial living and in the daily giving of ourselves wholly to our families. When we understand the concept of what it truly means to follow the Lord by listening to His teachings, we begin to live better for the sake of others. In following the commands of Christ and in bearing fruit for the kingdom, we are giving our kids the best give we can give--the gift of ourselves.
Ponder:
What is good fruit and bad fruit in terms of Jesus' teachings?
Pray:
Dear Jesus, I want to bear good fruit for Your kingdom. Help me to do this every day.
