Today's Gospel: Matthew 12:14-21

Today’s Gospel reading speaks of Jesus as the “chosen servant.” Jesus fulfills the prophesy of Isaiah as the beloved servant whom the Lord is delighted with. It also speaks of Him as one who did not contend or cry out. In reading the Gospel, we get a sense of God’s immense love for his Son,  who has been sent on a mission. As we know, that mission is all about us and our salvation.

The reading states that Jesus will bring justice to victory. These words can bring us consolation even today as we see so many injustices in our world. The Lord is still at work in bringing love, justice, and peace to others. Just as Jesus had a mission then, we as His followers are fulfilling that mission today as Catholic mothers. We can live as servants of the Lord and teach our kids and families to do the same.

God was delighted with Jesus, as the prophet Isaiah spoke of in this passage. He was delighted not only in Jesus as His Son but also as our Savior. We should also feel that same delight in our daily mission as mothers and as beloved daughters of our creator. God is also delighted with us. This is a love that the Lord wishes for us to know to the fullest and to share with others. We can model Jesus in loving both God and others in our daily walk. It is not always easy, but with the Holy Spirit within us, good things will begin to happen day by day.

Jesus continued to heal and to do good even when the Pharisees wished to put Him to death. He did not live in fear; He gave His life to God and to others. It is hard to imagine the pain that Jesus endured even in daily life. When we go through challenging times, we can continue to pray for strength and guidance to exercise mercy and love to all whom we meet each day. We ask the Lord to guide us as we journey through life as His followers.

Ponder:

How can I be a servant of the Lord in daily living?

Pray:

Lord Jesus, You are God's chosen servant. Help me to live a life of sacrifice for others as You did.
