Explore the assurance of the Church's authority as Jesus entrusts it to Peter, providing comfort and certainty in a world of confusion.
Today's Gospel: Matthew 16:13-19
What a beautiful assurance Jesus provides for us! This passage, a stumbling block to many Christians, is the foundation for the Church's authority and the Sacrament of Penance. Here, Jesus entrusts His Church to Peter who, unlike others, recognizes Him as "the Christ, the Son of the living God."
We can be certain that what the Church teaches is true, and that it will prevail. In a world filled with moral confusion, relativism, and evil, how blessed we are to know with certainty that the Church Jesus founded teaches God's Truth and will triumph.
Ponder:
Do I trust in the Church or do I question aspects of its teachings and authority?
Pray:
Thank You, dear Jesus, for Your provision so that we may be assured of the Church's authority and comforted that Your Church will prevail.
Pray Together:
Discuss how in the home and in the Church, authority is a blessing to the household and not a burden.
