Today's Gospel: Matthew 10:24-33

I have been walking this earth for fifty-four years, and I am just now beginning to notice areas where God has been removed from our world. I can imagine the disciples' fear as Jesus asked them to bear witness to everything about Him. Times were much harsher in the days of Jesus’ humanity, and I’m sure the backlash on the disciples was more severe than we may experience today.

There are many things to fear in our lifetime, and bearing witness to the One who gave us life should not be one of them. In today’s passage, Jesus takes on the emotion of fear by telling the apostles how valuable they are to His ministry. Without holding anything back, Jesus lays out the ground rules for being a faithful witness:

“But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father. Matthew 10:33

I don’t think it can be put any clearer than that.

As followers of Jesus, we are called to share our stories, not just to those with open ears. Much of Jesus’ ministry was opening the eyes and ears of those who believed in Him. We must remove the temptation of fear and embrace faith by boldly proclaiming our love and relationship with our creator.

Ponder:

Is there someone in my life whose eyes and ears are closed off to the knowledge of Jesus? How can I witness and share my story with them today?

Pray:

Heavenly Father, I love You beyond anything else. When I am given the opportunity to share that love with someone else, give me the grace and the words to do so.
