Today's Gospel: Matthew 13:10-17
We have become a know-it-all society. Even if we don’t have an answer to something, we Google it within a nano-second so we do. We no longer sit with a question, admitting we don’t know.
“They will hardly hear with their ears, they have closed their eyes, lest they see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and be converted, and I heal them.” Matthew 13:15
I believe Jesus spoke in parables to call us into that place of the “I don’t know.” His is an invitation to sit in the gray, in the uncertainty, so we recognize how blind and deaf we really are. When we do, we admit our limitations, and recognize our dependence on Him. We also learn patience as we humbly wait for God to grant us understanding in His time, not ours.
When we do, He heals us. It’s then we can truly see with our eyes, hear with our ears, and understand with our hearts.
Ponder:
Am I okay in a place of unknowing? If not, what can I do to embrace the discomfort, turning it into a dependence on God?
Pray:
God of All Knowing, help me to lean into You when things don’t make sense, confident that You’ll help me understand, when the time is right.
