Daily Gospel Reflection for July 29, 2026

Today's Gospel: John 11:19-27

This reading is part of the larger, familiar story about Jesus raising His friend Lazarus from the dead. But the part of the story we focus on today is Martha's testament of faith.

"I know."

"I have come to believe."

Martha is bold about expressing her faith. She is confident. And she is not afraid to say what she knows to be true about Jesus.

Martha is also not afraid to go to Jesus with what she needs. She is convinced of Jesus's power, even over death. She trusts that what Jesus says is true, and she doesn't have to see her brother raised from the dead to arrive at that conclusion.

In a moment of deep grief, Martha boldly displays deep faith.

Ponder:

Do I have strong faith like Martha's? How do I show my faith during the difficult moments in my life?

Pray:

Saint Martha, intercede for me when my faith is tested in times of crisis or grief.

Pray Together:

Outward signs of faith can be effective witnesses to others. When you are outside your home or church, don't hide your faith away. One simple way to do this is to pray together before meals.
