Today's Gospel: Mark 9:30-37
Jesus’ love for the little children is evident throughout Scripture. In this Gospel passage, Jesus speaks of the child as a model for discipleship. After not really understanding what Jesus meant as He revealed His suffering, the disciples argued over who from the group was best. I suppose the reaction of Jesus would be the same as that of one of our parents struggling to make a point to young children.
Children have innocence, are nonjudgmental, and are eager to please the one who loves them. It, then, is no surprise why Jesus chose a child to get His point across. This Gospel invites us, as adults and children of God, to evaluate how we live as disciples and followers of Jesus.
Ponder:
God is calling me to be a model and live in such a way that others can see God in me. How can I effectively carry out that calling?
Pray:
Loving God, help me to be a model Christian and share the love of Christ in all that I do. May my works and words glorify Your name.
