Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Luke 10:17-24

Our Catholic faith empowers us with a spirit of confidence and love. Some are able to exorcise demons, and others have the gift of healing. And perhaps more realistically, we mothers are given the power to do the small, ordinary tasks of a quotidian life with grace, love, and peace. Changing another dirty diaper, unloading and reloading the dishwasher, folding the mountain of laundry only to refill the laundry basket shortly thereafter . . . The mundane nature of these tasks may threaten to drive us to resentment and ennui, but our Lord gives us the power to tread on the metaphorical “serpents and scorpions” that confront many mothers day after day.

That’s exactly the spirit of the Little Way that St. Thérèse, whose Feast Day we celebrate, instructs us. To tackle each daily assignment with a courageous and magnanimous spirit of love.

And yet, even with the power of Christ behind us as we navigate the endless domestic duties, Our Lord reminds us that the greatest cause for celebration is not our achievements, but the simple truth that our names are “written in heaven.”

St. Thérèse can boast many accomplishments, including being one of only four female doctors of the Church. Nevertheless, it is not simply her deeds that make her great. It is because God revealed to her things that “great kings and powerful rulers have desired to see.”

Yes, He gives us the power to accomplish wonders (whether it be driving out demons or patiently bandaging a scraped knee), but ultimately it is not the realization of our efforts that is the cause of our joy, but the fact that we are His daughters, individually called by name, and by His passion, He has paved the way for us to rejoice with Him for all of eternity.

Ponder:

When I feel accomplished simply because of my busy-ness, how can I shift my focus to Heaven, the ultimate cause for celebration?

Pray:

Dear Lord Jesus, when I am feeling bogged down by the obligations of this life, remind me of the true cause of my joy: to join You in Heaven and rejoice with You forever.
