Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.
Today's Gospel: Matthew 24:37-44
Today is the First Sunday of Advent. We are entering into a sacred time of the liturgical year as we await the celebration of the Incarnation. In today’s Gospel reading from Matthew, we reflect upon the coming of the Son of Man. We also hear of the “lesson of the fig tree” (Matthew 24:32-25) and of “the unknown day and hour” (Matthew 24:36-44). These lessons prepare us for the unknown time that the Son of Man will come.
As Catholic mothers living out a vocation of love each day, we may ponder these things and ask the Lord, “How can we prepare ourselves to meet Jesus face-to-face?” It may seem like a far-off vision too difficult to grasp, but today’s reading alerts us to the fact that one day it will happen. How do we prepare? Time and time again, Jesus points to following the will of the Father each day. We are to do the same in preparation for Jesus’ return.
We can look forward each day during Advent to how we can serve God and others in little but very significant ways. Since discipleship is all about love, offering our lives to our families and loved ones is the best way to follow the path of holiness. As we journey during Advent, we can ask the Lord to guide us to prepare for Him to enter more deeply into our hearts each day. As we do so, we lift our prayers for all those in need and for those we love dearly.
Ponder:
Lord, how can I best prepare my heart, mind, and soul for Your coming?
Pray:
Jesus, thank You for the guidance You offer me to prepare myself for You. I love You with all my heart, and I wish to do Your will today and always.
