Today's Gospel: Matthew 7:21, 24-27
Sand and rocks.
We think of rocks as something indestructible and use the expression "solid as a rock” to indicate something or someone strong and dependable; faith can be spoken of in the same way.
But rocks can be broken down when exposed to erosion, as can our faith when we are overly exposed to things of this world, resulting in diminution of our values.
And here is where the shifting sands are formed: from the rocks that over time broke down from erosion and storms. The rocks have lost their foundational property.
The shifting sands of secular religion, not grounded in the Church, will eventually erode the values we hold dear from our Catholic faith, and our house cannot stand as the inevitable storms prevail.
Ponder:
Have you felt rubbed raw by worldly events? Can you identify what values have begun to erode and loosened the foundations of faith?
Pray:
Jesus, hear my cry as I struggle to remain on solid ground. Keep me safe from the wearing away that our world often brings.
