Today's Gospel: Luke 1:39-45

That sentence, verse 45 in the first Chapter of Luke, is packed!

“Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.”

The Lord, the Holy Spirit, speaks to us often. Maybe not audibly, but still He speaks.

When we walk deep in thought pondering out a quandary, He speaks a silent answer and we become aware of a solution. Do we believe what was spoken could possibly solve the issue?

As we lie in bed and recall something earlier in the day that delighted us, the Lord spoke joy into our hearts in that event. Do we accept that it was His sentiment that moved us? Did you hear the Holy Spirit whisper that late autumn afternoon when you stood in awe of the sight and delicate sound of cascading glistening leaves?

Did you believe the peace that was spoken by the Creator through His creation to fulfill the need in our souls to rest in him?

Humility is needed to accept that the Lord speaks to us, and a greater humility is needed to accept His fulfillment will be accomplished beyond our control and only with our willingness. Mary especially, and Elizabeth as well, heard the Lord and knew with their whole being — literally, in their maternity — that His word was being accomplished.

Ponder:

Consider the past few days. Was there a moment when you sensed one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and were moved by His message?

Pray:

My Lord and my God, help me to trust that You do speak to me in simple ways. Help me to grow in humility so that I may accept Your will more openly.
