Today's Gospel: Luke 2:22-35

What must it have been like for Simeon waiting for the Lord to show him the Messiah? What must it have been like for Mary and Joseph to hear those words spoken about their child? We know from Luke 2:51 that Mary “kept all these things in her heart.” Imagine hanging on the promise of salvation, knowing a Messiah will come but not knowing how or where or when.

Then, in the dark of night, in a small town, to a young girl, He comes into the world as an infant. This is nothing like what the Israelites expected, but Simeon was so filled with the Spirit that he knew right away he was holding the Promised One.

As time went on and Jesus grew, Mary and Joseph must have been caught up in parenting and family life plenty of times, forgetrinf how special He was. Imagine! The Messiah was born! Jesus is here! And daily life went on and almost no one seemed to notice.

Thankfully, here we are in our time fully aware of the Lord and His salvation. We don’t have to wait; He’s here now! Yes, we may still wonder about other upcoming God moments and life reveals, but we know our Savior! Mary and Simeon’s patience and quiet wisdom is inspiring.

When we wait on answers and blessings from the Lord, let us remember the patience and calm of Mary and Simeon. Let us also remember that God has already answered our prayers; we just have to watch for it to play out and remain faithful.

Ponder:

Am I patient enough to see how God is truly working in my life?

Pray:

Lord, quiet my mind and my worries so I can see the goodness You have already set before me.
